Since its approval by the FDA in 2002, the number of women going to clinics for Botox

treatments has been on an alarming rise. The increasing competition from younger girls and

the increasing media coverage of Hollywood beauties who never seem to get old. Then there

is also the increasing need to be attractive to guys who seem to be only interested in

young and beautiful girls pushes women to go for Botox treatments. Not just once but it

becomes a regular routine to go to the Botox clinic or the plastic surgeon once a week for

a shot. A resent survey by psychologists has brought to the front a new king of addiction.

This addiction is concerned with Botox abuse and many of the beauties who you see on the

screen are addicts. These beauties push other women to go for the same and in a short while

without this they are not able to look at themselves. The feasibility that Botox provides

to look beautiful without going under a knife is the reason women make it a habit. This has

resulted Botox to be the best rising cosmetic treatment procedure known till date. Women

develop the feeling that they start to wither away if they stop getting their Botox

treatments.

This fear of looking ugly is what pushes women to go for Botox injections more often than

required. These addicts go more often than require in the hopes that more Botox under their

skin will make them look more beautiful than they are. This is very important in a society

that is more focused on the outer image that the inner person. Even when the Botox

injections are doing their job of holding back the frown, people tend to get bored of their

new look and want to get better than they are.

Botox is that fountain of youth that is injected into millions of women everywhere. It is

scientifically known as Botulinum toxin. It is a byproduct of the bacteria’s such as

Clostridium Botulinum or similar bacteria. It is an extremely powerful neurotoxin which has

the potential to paralyze muscles. The bacteria producing Botox is responsible for meat

borne food poisoning. The use of this toxin for therapeutic uses was known only after

1960′s. Initially this toxin was only used to treat align crossed eyes in children and

adults. Botox was first used for cosmetic purposes in 1990′s for treating frown lines in

humans. It is also effective against muscle spasms. The FDA approved this drug in 2002 and

since then the popularity of this drug has only been on the rise. Around the world women

above the age of thirty are flocking to get their faces injected to seem ten to twenty

years younger. Use of Botox also has a unlikely effect on sweating which completely ceases

till the effects of the drug wear off completely. What it actually does is block the

ejection of acetylcholine from the muscle neurons through the binding onto the vesicle from

where acetylcholine is ejected. The effects of Botox used for muscle spasms lasts for 2

months but the same botox’s effect on the human face lasts for half that time. Some of the

other conditions where Botox is uses are in cases of excessive sweating, blood clotting or

artery blocking, squinting, excessive blinking, cervical dystonia, in cases of failure of

oesophageal sphincter, cases of sever migraine, anal fissure, and many other diseases of

the nervous system. In some cases Botox has resulted in respiratory failures and complete

nervous system shut down leading to the deaths of the patients. Along with this there are

numerous cases of mixed responses and that have been reported which

make Botox use unsafe.

There are magazines that simply make news of the ladies and the men who have plastic surgery done and it’s rarely, if ever, made to be a bad thing. It ties into a larger issue with the way the world see’s beauty. It’s not something that can be put into a box and labeled, but it’s something that does get labeled.

Currently, there doesn’t seem to be a lot of therapy out there for someone with a plastic surgery issue, but the risk it can cause to your health is ever present. It’s something that should be taken into consideration, but it is often an after thought in the world of addiction and mental illness.

Education has to start from someplace other than just the magazines. Like most image issues, it has to be a team effort, and something that begins in the home. Parents must educate their kids on what should be a healthy body image. If they do not, their kids could end up with a plastic surgery addiction.

Rehab Centers

Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction

Drug addiction is a disease which slowly diminishes the health wealth and social life of

the addict. The best part is that there is a way to save from drug

addiction. Rehab centers have behavioral therapy which include

counseling, support groups and family therapy. These kinds of treatments help the patient

to save herself from the constant drug cravings and to block the effect of drugs. If a

patient undergoes more of these treatments in rehab centers, the better the end results

are, as a result the patients come out as much better citizens. Patients who have stayed

for a minimum of 4 months in rehab develop the ability to cope with their addictions much

better than their counterparts who have had short term treatment. Over the last few decades

studies have shown that these kinds of treatments or rehab centers have helped people from

taking less drugs and the number of crimes committed related to drugs have come down

drastically and people coming out of the treatment completely have been able to lead better lives.
The main goals of these rehabilitation centers are to help the patient from abusing

themselves in the name of pleasure, and the other goals are to reduce the intake of drugs

completely and helping them to motivate so that they can face and get along socially with

everyone else. Most of the treatment last for at least about 5 months which are

somewhat like medication and residential-therapy and outpatient treatment. Out patient

treatment includes regular visit to the clinic where the doctors monitor the patient

closely.
The treatment is under “residential treatment” category which is often

called as Minnesota model.
Drug abuse has dwindling impact on the society which costs about $70 billion every year

just to United States; this includes abuse to drugs and medical care and excludes the money

spent on fighting the drug sellers.

Drug Rehabilitation

The treatment of an addict is through multiple methods which have been tried and tested.

These methods work on the physiological level and the physical level. Both medical and

physiological therapies are used to pull out a drug addict from the ditch that he slowly

keeps sliding into. Most of the individuals who begin abusing drugs have deep seated

emotional issues or are going through a bad phase in life. Either they are out of jobs, or

have had a bad break up or divorce or some other kind of mental pressure that makes these

drug addicts take the first step. Emotionally weakened individuals are easier to turn to

substance abuse. Their body’s urge to fight against these addictions is broken and can not

help in quitting.

Hence drug treatment therapies have to deal with mental issues as well as the physical

issues arising from the withdrawal of the drug. Though drug addiction is treatable, it is

not certain that this addition will not return. A recent research has come to the startling

results that more than 50% of the drug addicts have some sort of mental issues that may

have been arisen because of present problems or some issues related to childhood. Even if a

rehab center is successful in withdrawing the addiction of a particular drug, the chances

are very less that this addiction will not return. Hence physiological treatment is very

important to the complete withdrawal of drug. Hence a proper physiological care is

important along with medical and emotional care. The root causes because of which certain

addictions rise are because of psychiatric disorders or some or other kind. The staff needs

to be properly trained in handling the various kinds of emotional issues and deal with them

carefully. Programs that combine proper knowledge, clinical care, group therapy,

meditations and therapeutic support are most effective against fighting addiction.

Fast Food Addiction

Are you reaching out to that pack of chips while studying, browsing or even sleeping? Are

you over weight? Does a pack of French fries make you more anxious than sex does? If the

answers to these questions were yes, then you are addicted to fast food. It is turning out

to be the biggest problem with the new generations in the developed countries. Increasing

availability of fast food joints and more number of options available in chips, cold drinks

and other substances that make it easier to develop addiction to food. The new food options

available at food joints are chemically altered so that they taste much better than normal

healthy food. Food addiction is as serious as addiction to caffeine, drugs and alcohol. It

can be just as physically deteriorating as possible. The first and the most obvious effect

of food addiction are increasing waist lines and gigantic size.
The best part is that food addicts know that they are addicts but they still cannot fight

their urges even if they try. Even after knowing the disadvantages of excess eating, they

cannot stop eating constantly. A new breed of unintentional sumo wrestlers are being grown

all over the developed world. These overweight people have a physical and mental urge to

indulge in their favorite food more often than not. There are different types of food

additions. One of them in compulsive eating where the person eats excessively and rapidly

for several days. Another form of addiction is bulimia where the addict east so much that

in the end she resorts to vomiting or excreting using laxatives. In bulimia the person is

aware of her addiction along with the addiction to stay slim. For this the only solution

that these addicts come to is to exclude the food consumed before it is absorbed by the

body.

The Cocaine Denial: lapalomatreatment.com

It was once deemed an impossibility, an addiction that couldn’t exist: cocaine was touted to be without the terrible withdrawal symptoms, the aches and pains that other drugs would bring. It was instead to be a simple pleasure – and you had so little of that in your life. One taste, you were certain, would not be harmful. And two tastes would be surely be fine.

It was the third and the fourth and the eventual infinity that proved dangerous, however.

Cocaine is often thought to be the most common stimulant within the United States – and this is not entirely due to its effects, though the euphoric feeling it produces has branded it worthy among all users. The truth is that too many individuals believe this drug to be without worry. Most assume that it doesn’t have the physical symptoms that its rivaling ecstasy or prescriptions pills have. It’s meant instead to be an easy addiction with an even easier cure: the masses believe they can simply stop using it whenever they wish.

They can’t.

Cocaine does not lack the withdrawal complications of other drugs. It instead merely offers them through mental anguish. As a dependency grows, so does the compulsion to increase each dosage. The mind is tricked into craving this drug – and, when it is denied, severe feelings of depression can occur. The central nervous system reacts despairingly, causing chronic exhaustion and anxiety. Those who try to quit will find the process bordering on the impossible.

And this is why help must be sought. Organizations like lapalomatreatment.com have developed programs tailored for this form of substance abuse. They will allow an individual to slowly accept the notion of being without cocaine. Intense therapy is needed (and a far more intense strength of will); but the results are proven to be effective.

Addiction is a disease. There is now, however, a cure.

Addiction to Sex

Image via Wikipedia

Sex addiction is as real as any addiction and is treated as a disease. Recent media

coverage of Tiger Wood’s incredible sex addition has proved that it could happen to the

best of the people. It leads a person to ruin family ties and become mentally unstable. A

sex addict slowly distances himself away from society. Society too does not accept sex

addicts as a part of them. Or is sex addiction real or just a way to save face when caught

cheating on their spouses. No government addiction center recognizes sex addiction as a

real addiction and hence it is not as documented as other addictions. A sex addict tries to

replace problems such as pressure, stress, depression, disturbance or any other type of

mental problems with sex.

A sex addict begins to frequent sexual activities like masturbation, or in having sex for

longer periods than normal people. These people will be unable to stop themselves from

indulging in sexual activities and sexual behaviors. Even if not indulging in sex instead

if the person keeps taking about sex or thinking about sex or any kind of activity which is

sexually based is termed as sexual addiction. It has made quite a few relationships to lead

to divorce and also causes under performance in professional lives. To make himself sexually

satisfied a sexual addict will indulge in sex at any place he gets. He will start visiting

prostitutes more often than common or even indulge in the rape to satisfy himself. When sex

is not possible the addict feels depressed, hyper active, angry, easily irritated and other

such withdrawal symptoms. It not just men who are addicted to sex even women indulge in

sexual activities more than men. It has become a past time for teens to indulge in group

sex and enjoy multiple partners.

Rehab-International.org: Defining Addiction

Image via Wikipedia

It’s the easy denial, the refusal of logic: an addiction is deemed a mere hobby, thought to be acceptable. Its excesses are considered worthy. Its effects are forgotten. And every single moment that is offered to it is one you’d never trade. There is nothing better, you are certain, than your chosen obsession (even as you’d never call it that, would never give it such a lowly name). It’s your salvation after too long hours. It’s your indulgence. There is nothing wrong with this, you believe. Everyone deserves a little respite.

But, unfortunately, your respite is not the occasional taste, the infrequent sampling. It’s instead a routine, followed daily. And this is not to be ignored.

Addiction, simply defined, is a reliance on a specific element, wherein an individual cannot function without continued usage of that element and will suffer debilitating effects should they be forced to stop. Often this is applied to substances you personally would never touch (such as cocaine, heroin, and other drugs that would require interventions from organizations like Rehab-International.org). The concept is not so limited, however. It can instead be offered to all forms of obsession: from gambling to food, computers to sexual intercourse.

There is no end to the causes and there is only one cure: acknowledgment.

Addiction must be understood before it can be treated. Too often, however, do individuals consider themselves immune to this notion. Their pleasures are not compulsions, they argue. They are instead simple joys.

Such joys – when unable to be resisted, when made to dominate every thought – are more than hobbies, however. They are instead part of a disease and they must be recognized as such. Denying the truth is perpetuating the problem; and that can lead to disheartening results.

It is a careful line that divides enjoyment and addiction. That line must be scrutinized often, though, to ensure it doesn’t sway.
