There are many people in the United States who are facing substance abuse issues. There are so many people that need help with their substance abuse that some of the substance abuse treatment centers are overbooked. This leads to the individual being placed on a waiting list and having to wait for treatment. However, when their schedule time comes many of these substance abusers do not show up. Here is a look at how substance abuse treatment centers can do to make sure that their schedule substance abusers show up for their scheduled appointments.
Reminder Calls. A treatment center should make a reminder call to remind the person that their scheduled appointment is coming up. Calling 48 hours before their appointment has been known to increase the amount of people who show up for the appointments. It is also recommended that you call a member of the group if they have not shown up in a while. Often times that reminder call is enough to prompt them to return to the group.
Positive Reinforcement. Treatment centers that talk about the great benefits of attending meetings and all the schedule treatments in a positive light will get more people to return for their appointments. While treatment centers shouldn’t hide that the recovery process will be hard they should highlight why the person is doing it and how helpful it can be. At the end of meetings it can also help to talk about the benefits of that meeting. It will allow those recovering to see what they can get out of the program and remind themselves why they show up.
Pledges. It might sound like you are back in high school making a pledge but pledges to the group and to themselves will often help make the substance abusers feel an obligation to return to meetings and scheduled appointments. Research has shown that pledges can really increase the amount of people who return.
